Our part in this project was to make a leather seat cover for this chair, wooden parts are made by the customer.
There is a thin cushioning under the leather cover and the cover is attached to the seat by special furniture nails.
For decoration there is a hand carved image that is chosen by the customer.

Hand crafted leather covers for records.
Record covers for vinyl records (phonograph record, gramophone record) are hand crafted out of vegetable tanned leather. Between leather sheets we use 3mm birch plywood or grey board (that is also used for books or photo albums) to offer more protection and support for records than a usual carton case.

These leather boxes provide nice and sturdy saving place for your mementos, photos, documents and other items.
For this sort of leather covered box we make a plywood box by provided measurements and then cover it with vegetable tanned leather. Boxes on these photos have decorations on their covers. The image is carved onto the thicker leather and glued onto the cover piece. Other parts are covered by thinner leather that is also glues to the plywood. In the end the plywood won’t be visible at all.
Lighter box could be done in a similar way by using grey board but this decision should be made by considering how much weight should the box be able to support.
In this case the plywood is 6mm thick, so it is sturdy, durable and provides great support for its contents. Also they won’t bend or break when something is put onto them (up to certain limit of course). These boxes are 33 x 22 cm wide/long and 6cm high.

Hand crafted leather case
Have you ever thought of recording your own record? Maybe you play some instrument, sing or read your own poems or stories? This kind of record cover will be most suitable for such an important memory to keep or for a gift to give.

On the left side there is a simple and nice leather box. This box doesn’t have any wooden parts and it is suitable for smaller and lighter items.
On the right side on this photo there is a wet formed pocket with magnet lock. As it is also slightly baked in the oven, the pocket is a bit harder than leather usually is and provides a safe case but is also meant for lighter and smaller items.

For these kinds of straps you can choose the length and width of the straps. The straps can be made so that the height can be adjusted.
Straps for the hanger can be decorated with hand carved images or patterns and even painted in multiple colors.

The screws for the handles must be provided by yourself but we will make suitable wholes for them so they will all be nice and even and ready to put onto the cupboards or drawers.

Once we were asked if we could make new leather chair covers. Old covers were decorated by pressing the pattern onto leather but our approach was to handcarve same pattern onto new covers.
So first job was to take photos of the old pattern and redraw it so we could transfer it onto leather before carving it.
First we will wet the leather, then we’ll trace the pattern through the calque and then we can cut the lines out. For the last step we will also mould the pattern so it will become spatial.
It is possible to apply leather dye different ways – this time it was agreed that the edges of carvings will be left lighter so the pattern would be more visible.
In time just oiled vegetable tanned leather will get a bit darkr tone so the obvious contrast won´t last but it still will differ from background.
Leather covers are made out of vegetable tanned leather, dyed with oil dye, oiled and coated with varnish that gives it a bit shine and a bit waterproof.
Hand crafted vegetable tanned leather parts for a Roorkhee chair.
It is possible to order the whole set or just any parts which you need for your chair.
Any part will be made to order and accordingly to your chair’s measurements so they will fit perfectly.
The portable and lightweight Roorkhee (or Campaign) chair was commonly used by British military officers until WWII. And it is true – this chair is unbelievably comfortable and can be used outdoors on uneven grounds successfully.
Chess board is made of two layers of thick vegetable tanned leather. Two layers of leather are glued and also attached by triple-loop lacing.
Leather chess board on the photos is about 60x60cm. Numbers and letters are hand carved and then painted.
You may order chess board in any size you like.
We offer various beautiful colors to choose from.
You may choose seams instead of lacing.
All other game board orders are also welcome.
Leather desk pad is made of thick vegetable tanned leather.
Desk on the photo has a separate plate in the middle of the desk plate. The leather pad is glued onto that separate plate. In this case the leather pad is just above the desk plate as the separate plate is even with the main plate.
For decoration we used hand carved frame on the sides. Property mark of the owner has a place of honor in the corners.
Similar desk pad will be crafted accordingly to the desk measurements and your wishes.
We also welcome all orders for desk pads that are not intended to be glued or fitted into or onto the desk.
